The Darkness | Hot Cakes

It’s no ordinary day at the office when Glam Rock band, The Darkness come knocking. With an album entitled Hot Cakes, the band desired a suitably outlandish album cover to announce their comeback. We responded with an appropriately tasteful concept – three scantily clad models covered in hot syrup and lying on giant breakfast pancakes… a spoof of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Land meets Denny’s Diner.

After sourcing three giant pancakes, 50 litres of syrup and a photoshoot in Buenos Aires; talented Argentinian painter, Diego Gravinese was commissioned to treat the results in his signature photorealist style. Three weeks later, after working closely with Diego from dawn to dusk with digital retouching, we had a stunning final piece. With this we created a highly kitsch, 70’s low budget B Movie style, super-deluxe Digipack CD, 12″ Vinyl Gatefold LP and iPhone App for the album campaign launch.
